Breast Surgery

We provide a first class breast surgery service at Warrington and Halton Hospitals. This is mainly based at Halton General Hospital, although some complex surgery work takes place at Warrington Hospital.

We provide a first-class breast surgery service at Warrington and Halton Hospitals. This is mainly based at our newly built Breast Care Centre within The Captain Sir Thomas Moore (CSTM) building in Runcorn, any complex surgery takes place on the Warrington site.

Our breast unit is fully equipped to deliver a modern breast service with two digital mammography suites including tomography, two ultrasound clinic rooms, consultation and counselling rooms.

The breast team consists of three substantive Consultant Surgeons, two of whom deliver a comprehensive oncoplastic and breast reconstructive service, supported by three Trust Grade Specialty doctors.

We have close links with the regional Plastic Surgical Service in Whiston Hospital to deliver a free flap reconstructive service.

There are four clinical nurse specialists currently supporting the department, including a dedicated metastatic breast care nurse.

The main work of the breast surgery team is to treat patients with breast cancer. The first type of treatment for breast cancer is usually surgery. The type of surgery depends on the type of breast cancer a patient has.

Surgery is usually followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy or, in some cases, hormone or biological treatments. Again, the treatment you will have depends on your type of breast cancer.
