Patient Feedback

What our patients say about our services and how we make changes.

We actively encourage our patients to leave us feedback on their experiences using our services.

Feedback is incredibly valuable to us. It is the only way that we can make improvements and share best practice across our teams. There are several feedback services that can be used in the NHS.

These are in addition to the Friends and Family test - the results for Friends and Family can be viewed elsewhere in this section here.

patientOpinion.pngNHS Choices and Patient Opinion are two closely linked services that allow patients to leave comments and ratings on their experiences in the NHS - telling us what went well and what could be improved. Comments are shared between the two systems.

These comments are published for everyone to see on their websites. Both services have a moderation system to ensure comments are fair and genuine and hospitals have a right to reply to comments that are made.

How do we rate?

NHS Choices creates star ratings based on patient feedback. This is an aggregate score of ratings left over the last 24 months about a hospital. A hospital can score between one star (worst) and five stars (best).

Our current scores are shown below. You can click on the stars to view the NHS Choices page for each of our hospitals and leave your own review. All you need is a valid email address as all feedback is moderated independently by NHS Choices:

National patient surveys

There are also a number of national patients surveys carried out either annually, or less frequently. In these surveys a number of recent patients (usually several hundred) are sent a questionnaire by an independent survey company to look at their experiences. Benchmarked reports are then produced.

We will shortly be providing links to the national:

  • Inpatient survey
  • Outpatient survey
  • Maternity survey
  • Accident and emergency survey
  • Cancer patients survey.
