Rowan Downie

Pre Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician

Rowan is starting out in his NHS career, having joined the trust during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is now well on his way with his training to become a registered pharmacy technician.

Why did you choose to work in the NHS?

I started working at the trust during the pandemic because I wanted to help out. I saw how everyone was coming together to help everyone and wanted to take part and do my part. The student team I work with are really nice - we all work together and help each other through the training.

Tell us about your role?

I mainly work behind the scenes at Warrington Hospital - I assist with medications on wards, and help patients get ready for discharge (to go home) with the right medications.

What do you most enjoy about your role?

I like my role because I like helping people. Working in pharmacy means I'm still helping patients, even though I don't deliver direct care.

What would you say to someone thinking about a career in the NHS?

The NHS is a definitely a worthwhile place to work - it's great for progression and development. There are so many roles available to you, it's really a great place to develop a career.
