Mr Melling undertook his undergraduate studies in Liverpool, graduating in 2004, completing his postgraduate surgical training in the Northwest. This included a 2-year Research Fellowship in pancreatic cancer at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and a post CCT fellowship in paediatric surgery at Alder Hey children’s hospital. He is author on 5 peer reviewed publications and has presented his research both nationally and internationally.

Mr Melling was appointed as consultant surgeon at Warrington and Halton Hospitals in 2017. He is the lead for paediatric general surgery and was departmental governance lead from 2018-2020.

He has a keen interest in Medical Education and training. He has been Royal College Surgical Tutor at Warrington since 2018 and is a member of the Northwest Surgical Training Committee, is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer with the University of Liverpool, a JAG accredited endoscopy trainer and has received Certificates of Excellence in Medical Education from both the Northwest School of Surgery and Warrington Postgraduate Education Department.

Outside work, Mr Melling loves the great outdoors and is a keen amateur cyclist, completing Land’s End to John O’ Groats for the WHH charity in 2021. He has also recently been forced to learn to ride a horse by his wife!
