WHH shortlisted for two HPMA Excellence in People Awards

We are delighted to announce that Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WHH) has been shortlisted for two Healthcare People Management Awards (HPMA). The HPMA Excellence in People Awards recognise and reward outstanding work in healthcare human resource management.

The ‘Wellbeing at Warrington and Halton Hospitals with Rugby League Care project’ has been shortlisted in the Browne Jacobson award for excellence in employee engagement category. This category focuses on the organisation that has significantly improved patient care and has happier, more motivated, and more productive workforce through improved staff engagement.

The Covid pandemic has had a huge impact on staff and to help staff work through the impact on their mental health WHH successfully implemented an innovative and unique wellbeing and engagement offer, working in partnership with Rugby League Cares (RLC). RLC delivered a range of wellbeing interventions which include the Off-Load Programme, bespoke physical and mental fitness sessions and 1:1 support to promote being well and in work. The collaboration has developed to include several physical wellbeing programmes such as walking touch rugby.

WHH has also been shortlisted for their ‘Your Future Your Way – breaking down barriers for diverse talent’ initiative. The programme has helped nursing, midwifery, and allied health professional colleagues from an ethnic minority background to develop skills to reach equity and career progression.

Michelle Cloney, chief people officer, said: “We are extremely proud of our teams for their hard work over the last few years and we are happy to see this work recognised by being shortlisted.”

The winners of the 2023 HPMA Excellence in People Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony which will be held in Leeds on Tuesday 19 September.

The Trust was also a finalist in the Health Service Journal Digital Awards, held on 22nd June, for their work with Patchwork Health on a new innovative temporary staff bank solution. This has digitised the management of temporary staff bank and created flexible working opportunities for medics across the Trust.
