Haematology Cancer Pathway

This service is for suspected 2WW Cancer Referrals only. A referral letter must be attached.  Once the referral has been assessed and triaged the booking team will contact the patient to offer them an appointment (which may be face to face or a phone call). We aim to complete this within 2 working days. The appointment will be made within 2 weeks of the referral assessment request being received.

Refer to NICE guidance.  

•    Suspected haematological cancers                            
•    Leukaemia
•    Bone pain (only if had blood tests that indicate myeloma or leukaemia)
•    Raised ESR (only if the test shows signs or symptoms myeloma or mgus)
•    Constellations of 3 or more of the following symptoms: night sweats-weight loss-itching
•    Breathlessness-bruising-recurrent infections-bone pain.                      
•    Patients with B symptoms are accepted if the imaging and blood tests point to a Haematological condition.
 

•    FBC
•    U+E
•    LFTS
•    Chest Xray or other appropriate Xray
•    Ultrasound 
•    CT or MRI
 

A blood test will be performed on your first appointment and then you may be referred for further investigations:

•    FBC
•    U+E
•    LFTS
•    Chest x-ray or other appropriate x ray
•    Ultrasound
•    CT or MRI                                                                           
•    Bone marrow
•    Immunoglobins 
 

•    Referrals that are not suspected Cancer. 
•    Hepatosplenomegaly to be referred to gastroenterology. 
•    Paediatrics < 16 years of age
