Outpatients Department - Adults


General introduction

The Outpatients Department provides care for people who do not need to stay in hospital overnight. A wide range of clinics are available, offering appointments for diagnosis, treatment, and simple procedures.

Appointments are available across numerous specialties, including:

  • colorectal surgery
  • rheumatology
  • gynaecology
  • ear, nose and throat (ENT)
  • gastroenterology
  • neurology
  • audiology
  • nephrology
  • plastic surgery
  • breast surgery 

Clinics take place at both Warrington and Halton Hospitals.

How to access this service

Clinics run Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm.

Before your appointment, you will receive a letter or text message with everything you need to know.

Appointments may take place in person, by phone or by video call.

When you arrive, please check in at the reception desk, where you will be shown where to wait.

Additional services

Blood tests can be booked online, and some clinics are also available in community locations to make access easier.

Extra clinics may be offered on weekdays and evenings to help reduce waiting times.

Some patients may be offered Patient Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU), which allows you to request a follow-up appointment if your symptoms return or change.

  • administration assistants

The department also supports student nurses as they develop their skills.

Useful information

We work closely with specialist nurses to support patients with additional needs, including those with learning disabilities, autism, dementia or delirium.

  • quiet rooms are available for patients who need a calmer environment on both hospital sites.
  • the dementia‑friendly Lilac Lounge which is available at both hospital sites offers comfortable seating and activities for patients waiting for transport.
  • flash cards and easy read communication tools are available for patients who find it difficult to communicate verbally.

Both hospital sites have wheelchair access, disabled facilities and on‑site parking, including disabled parking spaces.

Interpretation and translation services are available, including virtual interpreters for over 100 languages.
