Midwifery-led Unit - The Nest

General introduction

The Nest is a Midwifery-Led Unit (MLU) situated on the ground floor of Warrington hospital. This is a birth option available to women in Warrington and Halton, as well as across the north west.

The Nest offers four en-suite birth rooms, each with their own birthing pool and two having access outside to the garden area. The rooms have been designed to promote active, upright labours in a calm and relaxed environment.

The equipment available reflects our ethos of promoting physiological labour, utilising birthing couches, birthing stools, mats and positioning pillows. Specialist lighting, Bluetooth speakers and projectors allow personalisation of the space to help create a 'home from home' feel.

There is the option of early discharge home so women and families can be supported by the community midwifery team in the comfort of their own home. There is a large and inviting kitchen area for patient and staff use, as well as refreshment facilities in each room.

A broad range of pain management and comfort measure options are available including complimentary therapies and pharmaceutical medications.

How to access this service

Women with uncomplicated pregnancies or individualised care plans will be allocated to The Nest for labour care unless they choose to opt for alternative areas of birth.

They will be cared for by experienced midwives and maternity support workers, who aim to provide one-to-one support throughout the Iabour and help each woman to birth her baby with as minimal intervention as possible.

If you feel your labour has started or your waters have broken, please call Maternity Triage on 01925 275200 to be assessed.
