Catheter Care Team – Warrington


General introduction

The team provide rapid response support for patients with urgent and complex catheter problems in the community, whether living at home or in residential or nursing home settings. By providing quick support we can help to prevent unnecessary hospital stays.

We provide:

  • assessment of acute and chronic urinary retention
  • trial without catheter (TWOC) in the community
  • bladder scanning
  • teaching and support for intermittent self‑catheterisation
  • use of Entonox (gas and air) for painful catheter changes
  • first change of supra‑pubic catheters
  • complex catheter changes
  • venepuncture (puncturing a vein with a needle)
How to access this service

Any patient with complex catheter needs who is registered with a Warrington GP can access this service.
