Despite making up just 5% of the workforce 70% of all diagnoses are attributed to the work of biomedical scientists. Absolutely essential roles to delivering high quality and safe healthcare.
Its interesting work, focusing on the complexity of the human body, how cells, organs and systems function as well as investigation how disease and medicine affect them. If you have ever had a urine, blood, tissue or other sample taken by a doctor or nurse, chances are it will have been diagnosed by a biomedical scientist!
Undertaking over 5 million tests every year, everyone will use the services of biomedical scientists more than once during their lifetime.
These are critical roles and place high importance on lean processes to deliver results fast for the benefit of our patients. For example by utilising the lean processes within the department, Pathology can produce reports essential for the patient care in the fact timescale required by the requesting doctor. Critical report are phones through to the requester before all results are transmitted electronically.
