Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust has been nominated for a record four Patient Safety Awards.

The prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Awards celebrate the teams and individuals within the healthcare sector who are striving to improve the hospital experience in a number of ways. The ceremony will be held virtually in November this year.

The annual awards are an opportunity for Trusts to showcase their work at a national level on driving patient safety improvements. The Trust is shortlisted in the following categories:

  • Deteriorating Patients and Rapid Response Systems Award - THINK Delirium in Intensive Care
  • Service user engagement award - Hearing those hard to reach voices: using social media as a platform for engagement
  • Urgent and Trauma Care Safety Initiative:
    • The Introduction of a Thoracic Injury Pathway to a Major Trauma Unit
    • Improving patient safety by reducing length of stay in the Emergency Department

Professor Simon Constable, chief executive said: “We are delighted to have made the shortlist with four of our patient safety initiatives. Patient care is at the heart of everything we do and for multiple entries to be shortlisted by the HSJ is testament to the hard work of the team. Staff have done some fantastic work in embedding how we share and learn from improvements made across the Trust. “These awards are a great way to recognise the great work and progress we’ve made in patient safety, and to share best practice which is crucial in our vision of being an outstanding Trust.”
