My volunteering story: Sivalatha Janahan

Sivalatha explains how being a WHH Volunteer is so rewarding....

I am Srilankan. I settled with my husband in the UK in 2014. When I came here I have a big challenge in my life, that how I am going to adapt to this new environment because there are many differences between British people and myself such as language, life style, culture, religion etc. In this situation I got a valuable opportunity to become a WHH volunteer at Warrington and Halton Hospitals.

After that I felt a great change in my life. I have new friends and gained new experiences. My inferiority complex has vanished. I developed self-confidence and look forwards to my future. In addition to this I have learned medical and health care skills which could be helpful for my future employment as I am applying for work in the NHS. Besides these my volunteering has helped me develop mental relaxation and spiritual happiness by supporting patients with activities. I am grateful to the Trust for giving me this opportunity .
