We're looking for foundation trust members to stand as hospital governors this autumn

As an NHS Foundation Trust, we have public and staff governors who are elected and help guide the hospitals and our future strategy, holding the hospitals to account to local people. They also sit on key committees in the hospitals, perform duties like carrying out unannounced ward visits and help us to engage with the local community at events and through surveys and focus groups.

We are currently hosting elections for public governors in several of our 16 public constituency areas. This is because previous terms of office of some of the governors comes to an end in November. The areas with elections taking place are as follows:

Halton

  • Public 3 - Norton South, Halton Brook, Halton Lea

Warrington

  • Public 6 - Lymm, Grappenhall, Thelwall
  • Public 7 - Appleton, Stockton Heath, Hatton, Stretton, Walton
  • Public 8 - Penketh and Cuerdley, Great Sankey North, Great Sankey South
  • Public 12 - Poplars and Hulme, Orford

Surrounding Areas

  • Public 15 - North Mersey
  • Public 16 - Rest of England and Wales

There will also be elections for staff governors in two of our five staff governor areas. The areas with staff elections taking place is as follows:

  • Staff Class E - Estates, Administration & Managerial Staff

Can anyone become a governor?

You need to be a member of the foundation trust, be over 16 years old and live in one of the areas that are up for election to stand, but membership is free and you can join at any time (you can do this online here) as long as your governor nomination form is returned by 17th October when nominations close.

If you live in one of these areas and want to stand but need to become a member, submit the membership form ASAP and please call us on 01925 662 139 or email us at foundation@whh.nhs.uk so we can quickly process your membership and get a self-nomination form to you from UK Engage in advance of the nominations closing on 17th October. UK Engage are an independent elections company who run our election process for us.

What happens if I stand for election?

Ballot papers for elections will be issued to members in the above areas to vote on who they wish to be their public governor - unless an area is uncontested (i.e. just one member standing for election).

The ballot papers will be issued at the beginning of November and the results of the elections will be reported through the trusts website week commencing 27th November.

Alternatively if you are interested in becoming a public governor and would like to contact the trust in the first instance please contact the Trust Secretary on 01925 662 139.
